Hey there. My name is Softpaws, but just "Soft" or "Paws" will usually get my attention.I am—or was—a kobold of the Sword Coast, very different from the sort that live here in Eorzea. I used to be a thief, taking what I could and giving nothing back. Then, out of the blue, on a battlefield of all places, I met someone. She and her companions changed my life forever, and helped me discover so much about myself I thought I would never know.But, I digress. In case you haven't picked up on it, I'm... not exactly from around here, but I've come to enjoy my time in this world, and even though I've since found a way to traverse the rift to come and go, I find myself spending more and more time on Etheirys these days.These days, I occupy my time with treasure hunting, spell slinging, and general adventuring. I'm currently studying aetherology to inform how I tackle a problem back home.

Where does the name "Softpaws" come from?
Some kobolds are given names that carry deeper significance. Softpaws is no different. Her mother, Quickfoot, gave her the name for two reasons.Quickfoot was a master thief, but didn't want the same difficult life for her daughter. When Softpaws hatched, Quickfoot took notice of the overly pronounced, soft paw pads on the little kobold's feet and settled on the name "Softpaws" as a sort of wish. A wish that her daughter could have a nice, comfortable life where her paws would always stay as soft and cute as the day she hatched.The second reason, however, is something Softpaws came to believe when she learned of her father, a black dragon who bore similar pads on his paws. Softpaws believes that the name was something of a hint to her heritage.
Why is she always barefoot?
Soft grew up and lived most of her life as a kobold of the Sword Coast. With her old body, she never had a need for shoes. Such items were expensive and had to be custom made for creatures like her. Her paw pads performed their role, and she never had need of them.In Eorzea however, it's simply a matter of personal comfort for her to stay barefoot whenever possible. Eorzean shoes are far too narrow for her feet, and she has a better sense of her environment and balance without them. The practice also aids her thievery. Far easier to sneak around without shoes or boots to change her balance. A creaking floor board could spell her doom, so why take the risk?
How does Softpaws relax when she's not adventuring?
Softpaws often finds herself relaxing at the end of a hard day at just about any bath house she can find. Nothing like a good soak to wash away the aches and pains of mortal combat. Even better if she can get a massage to go with it.It's also an excellent place to swap stories and meet people. She may even share how her projects and studies are coming along if you ask.
